about
Lives and works in London, United Kingdom
Adam Ross' work is part of a formal research close to the architectural advances of deconstructivism - Coop Immelb(l)au, Franck O'Gehry, Rem Koolhaas. He handles the tension between forces, the swaying, and challenges the legitimacy of forms and their hierarchy. Open to reflection, to the transformations of an unstable geometry, he is interested in artistic experimentation and sculpture but remains nevertheless faithful to a ceramic for everyone's use.
Adam tackles with humour a stylistic immobility that persists in the world of utilitarian ceramics. Following on from the English tradition - Bernard Leach, Richard Batterham - he keeps experimenting : « try again, fail again, fail better » would Beckett say. He is a playful and generous explorer. Each piece, coming out of the workshop, adds to a gallery of characters. He sketches a posture, underlines an attitude, without ever getting into caricature. Striking power does not exclude delicacy.
